Strongest XI
With our new signings what would you say is our best starting XI?

Re: Strongest XI
You play your best players in their best position.
Bowen scores those magic goals because the ball is played to the left of his body, it wouldn't work as well down the left. Paqueta is best through the middle.
JWP central.
Kudus we don't know yet in the PL.
At least it will stop a center back coming on for a forward.

Re: Strongest XI
Throwing out there - how about Bowen on the left?

As a left quick, left footer, he could be a decent left winger.

Might take a few goals away from him but could make up for it by proving a few assists?

TBH any of the below suggestions provided it don't include Soucek.

Re: Strongest XI
Oh right. I wasn't even thinking about that. I just put the 2 names there as the central midfield pairing. Yeah, obviously JWP would play on the right of that midfield 2. Has fuck all to do with where the attacking players are positioned in any case.

You're right though. None of us know what Moyes will do. He'll probably tinker about with it a lot I imagine, especially if we get in a new striker.

Re: Strongest XI
You have JWP on the left of centre he will play on the right of centre.. But I can't be bothered to argue as we're both just guessing what Moyes will do.

Oh and I'm going off what am Ajax fan said about Kudus not from what I've seen.

Nagel 11:12 Tue Aug 29
Re: Strongest XI
JWP hasn't played on the right for years, and he's only played centrally for us so far, so I don't know what you're on about there. Kudus himself reckons his best position is as a no 10. He did score a hat trick from the RW against some Bulgarian no hopers last week, but that don't necessarily make it his best position.

I do think he might play there with Bowen up front, or even play up front himself, but as I said, if we play with a proper striker then Paqueta on the left is the best way to accommodate them all in midfield.

Re: Strongest XI
Paqueta would be completely wasted there, and JWP plays on the right. Not that I'd put it past Moyes to do it.

He's also said he wants to try Bowen up front so I feel like he might play Kudus in his best position which is right wing, we shall have to wait and see.

Nagel 10:51 Tue Aug 29
Re: Strongest XI
LOL. No. I'm not suggesting that at all. Assuming we play with a striker then our best midfield would be:

-------Alvarez----JWP------
Bowen---Kudus---Paqueta

The only one being even vaguely shoehorned there is Paqueta. Any other option you come up with would be shoehorning at least one other player, unless you drop JWP.

Re: Strongest XI
Are you suggesting we play him on the left wing to accommodate Soucek in midfield?

It's simple we have to play him alongside Alvarez, it's his best position. We have Benrahma and Cornet for the left as it stands. Let's not shoehorn a lot of players in out of their best positions.

Our best three midfielders should play in midfield.

Nagel 10:29 Tue Aug 29
Re: Strongest XI
Paqueta started only 1 or 2 games on the left at Milan, where by all accounts he was pretty terrible wherever he played. I don't think he played at all there for Lyon. If he did it was only on the left of a midfield 3, not a front 3. The only time he ever had a run of games as a LW was actually for Brazil during the WC qualifiers. Even so he's still played more games on the left than either Kudus and Bowen. Paqueta might not like playing there, but I strongly doubt that the others would either, and obviously Moyes already picked him in that position in our last game, so he clearly thinks he can play there.

Re: Strongest XI
Agree, you can’t have him out on the left.

Let’s hope Kudus is a good fit on the left because from what I have read he is central or right sided.

Re: Strongest XI
Paqueta on the left?

Our best player in a position he doesn't like.
I've read that's where Milan played him and he was terrible.

He then went to Lyon and a fan said his best position was an 8 he was OK as a 10 too but looked terrible when he had to play on the left. Kudus has hardly played on the left either.

Be interesting to see what Moyes does with him. But I think he will play on the right.

Re: Strongest XI
Kudus and Bowen are similar players in that their best qualities are dribbling and scoring. If they play on the left then they're not going to be able to cut inside as much, negating their goal threat somewhat. Our best 3 attacking midfielders (Kudus, Bowen and Paqueta) are all left footed so if we wanted to play them all together then I'd put the one on the left with the best passing ability: Paqueta.

Stepney hammer : If Bowen can produce the same level of performance on the left as he does on the right then that would be an added bonus of signing Kudus.

I've seen a few people critical of the idea of Kudus playing on the left, but I wonder if it could work if him and Bowen interchanged a lot during a game, sort of like Duff and Robben used to at Chelsea.

Re: Strongest XI
Areola

Coufal Zouma Aguerd Emerson

JWP Alvarez

Bowen Paqueta Kudus

Antonio

Coufal and Antonio need upgrading, but other than that it’s a smoking 1st XI

Pub Bigot - you must be confident fielding a team of reserves, and only 10 of them at that.
